Elmer "Gene" "Fudd" Altman ( September 18, 1927 - July 26, 2017 )

Elmer “Gene” “Fudd” Altman passed away on July 26, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born at home in Larkin Township on September 18, 1927, to the late Henry and Carrie (Eisenlord) Altman and was a 4th generation Midlander. On July 3, 1950, he married Virginia L. Mast.
Gene worked for Dow Chemical for 33 years as a rate analyst retiring in 1980. He served his country in the United States Navy. Gene enjoyed playing Euchre, horseshoes, traveling and watching the Detroit Tigers. He attended Lake Superior State University and was a cheerleader and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all he loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
Gene is survived by his wife Virginia, children: Karen (Eric) Ostergren, David (Wendy) Altman, Linda (Duwane) Ledbetter, Lisa (Todd) Weigl, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Gertrude Dunham and Henrietta Zentiek.
Gene was predeceased by his son, Kim Altman, and siblings: Robert Altman, Dale Altman, Eugene Altman, Betty Sherwood, Donnabelle Jenkins, Eva Dowker and Pauline Cassidy.
A funeral service will take place at Calvary Baptist Church on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Paul Murphrey officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Sunday, July 30th from 5-7 pm and on Monday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Midland City Cemetery.
