Genevieve May Frisch ( November 16, 1925 - August 28, 2017 )

Genevieve May Frisch, 91, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw on August 28, 2017. She was born November 16, 1925, to John and Hazel Johnson in Alma, Michigan, the second eldest of twelve children. She married Eldon Frisch, her surviving husband, on July 16, 1949. They lived in Midland, MI, for the last 61 years.

Genevieve was a life-long supporter of the importance of higher education; she was the second of her siblings to attend college, matriculating at Central Michigan University. During her lifetime, she instilled, encouraged, and supported this outlook in her children and grandchildren and helped ensure that each was able to pursue higher education in whatever field they chose at their college of choice. Her daughters and son all attended college, receiving advanced degrees in engineering, education, and insurance. All of her grandchildren have received advanced degrees in medical or scientific fields, including doctorates and master’s degrees. She leaves a legacy of the pursuit of higher education that will be continued for her great-grandchildren as well as future generations in her family.

Genevieve was an avid reader, often reading several books concurrently, and an enthusiastic bridge player, belonging to several bridge clubs over the years. She also was a skilled seamstress, sewing from the time she was a young girl and able to create original clothing. During her lifetime, she used her sewing skills to create beautiful quilts, throws, and wall hangings, which still grace the homes and beds of those who received them. She also welcomed an untold number of babies of relatives, neighbors, and friends with a handmade, originally decorated hooded baby towel. Genevieve also enjoyed traveling the world with her husband; in each city she visited, she engaged in walking tours in order to learn about its culture and people.

In addition to her husband, Genevieve is also survived by her children and their spouses, Fay (Frisch) VandenBerg (Craig), Larry Frisch (Jane), Lynn Frisch (Larry Borden); her grandchildren and their spouses, John VandenBerg (Lenin Jose Silva Ruiz), Amy VandenBerg (Amy Thompson), Ryan Frisch (Sara Brouwer), Lindsay (Frisch) Olsen (Devin); her great-grandchildren, Genevieve Frisch, Nicole VandenBerg, Calder Frisch, Douglas VandenBerg; her siblings, Joyce Hindenlang (Don), Richard Johnson, Philip Johnson, Keith Johnson, Ted Johnson (Flavio de Miranda Souza), John Johnson (Kandy); and her sisters-in-law, Lila Frisch, Elaine (Frisch) Doehring, Nancy Frisch, Jackie Johnson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in her extended family.
Genevieve’s support for her loved ones will be remembered for many years.

Per her wishes, Genevieve was cremated, with a service to be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a school, college, or university of the donor’s choice.
