Eugene R. Hollingshead ( September 2, 1932 - November 5, 2017 )

Eugene “Gene” R. Hollingshead, 85, of Midland, died at home on Sunday, November 5, 2017. He was born on September 2, 1932 to the late Sidney and Thelma (Wilson) Hollingshead. On July 14, 1956 he married Joyce A. Stanford who predeceased him February 3, 2013.
Gene served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a master mechanic both at work and at home having plied his skills for over 25 years at AC Graham Motors retiring in 1980. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushrooming. Gene loved reading science fiction especially IsacacAsmov. He was the best neighbor to have, he helped everyone. Later in his life he became a kinder, patient, mellow person with nature.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Vickie (Randy) Kraus, Brenda (Don) Carter, Ronda (Mike) Gary; sons, Ken (Rosemary), John (Rhonda), 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Marilyn Bartlett, Altheda Gibbs, Aletha McNeilly and Wanda (Ken) Maloney.
Gene was predeceased by his son Brian and his family, wife, Sally, children, Amanda, Tiffany, David and brother, Owen Hollingshead.
A funeral service will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 9, 2017 with Deacon Frank Hudson officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8th from 4-7 pm and on Thursday from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Midland Memorial Gardens.
