Gary Lynn McPhillips “BIG” passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was born February 16th, 1937, in Midland Michigan, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Gary married Ruthan Marie LeFevre on July 19, 1958 in Saginaw, Michigan.

Gary began his longtime commitment to the local business community in 1957. He was General Manager of Camps Cars for 13 years before opening his own automobile business, McPhillips Motor Cars, in 1976. He was a successful business man for 50+ years, establishing a name for himself as one of the foremost authorities in antique and collectible automobiles in the nation. He was a longstanding member of the Midland Elks club, the Midland Community Center and Winterfield Conservation Club. Gary was an avid collector of firearms, antique automobiles and anything else that struck him as interesting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his garden. BIG will be missed and fondly remembered by many.

Famous author...
"Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another."
―Ernest Hemingway
Not so famous author, but equally as adventurous...
"No matter where you're at, there you are."
--Gary McPhillips

Gary is survived by his wife Ruthan, and their five children, Mark (Dawn) McPhillips, Kari McPhillips, Tim (Jeannie) McPhillips, Michael McPhillips, and Matthew (Stephanie) McPhillips. Gary will also be lovingly remembered by his sister Donna (Robert) Zimmer, in addition to his nine grandchildren, Robb, Rochelle, Ryan, Jack, Abigail, Caitlyn, Courtney, Kenzie, James, and Caden.
