Dorothy Hodge ( August 28, 1924 - January 7, 2018 )

On Sunday, January 7th, Dorothy Hodge; devoted wife, loving mother, and caring grandmother, went into the arms of Jesus after a brief illness. Dorothy was born to the late Cecil and Flora Cotter on August 28, 1924 in Southfield County, MI. She graduated from Marlette High School where she met the love of her life, Navy Seaman Ward J. Hodge. She served her country during WWII with the US Coast Guard, SPARS branch stationed in Philadelphia. They were both Honorably Discharged shortly after she and Ward were married on August 6, 1945. Dorothy loved being a homemaker and was known for her generosity and welcoming nature. She carried a "Bloom where you are planted" attitude wherever she went. They spent the last 17 years in Midland near family.

In addition to spending time with family and friends, Dorothy loved reading, gardening, knitting and sewing and she loved passing these skills onto others inside and outside the family. Countless hours have been spent trying to beat her at Scrabble. She enjoyed fellowship with friends as part of Sew and Go Aldersgate Quilters at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Midland where they made lap quilts to donate to local charitable organizations.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her husband of 72 years, Ward Hodge; their children: Gregory (Sharon) Hodge, Jeff (Karen) Hodge, Janis Lord, Karen (Scott) Cobel, and Julie (Greg) Garl. Dorothy's home is decorated with pictures of her 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Two siblings, Keith and Joy Cotter, preceded her in death.

A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on March 17th, 11am at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Midland, MI.

Those wishing to express their sympathy may consider Sew and Go Aldersgate Quilters or Pregnancy Resource Center in Midland, MI.
