Kathleen Ellen (Polder) Wagner

Kathleen E. Wagner, of Sanford, passed away on April 5, 2018 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. She was born in Detroit on June 20, 1952 to the late Albert and Margaret (McGowan) Polder. Kathleen was raised in Allen Park, MI along with two younger sisters and one younger brother. She was an excellent student and a member of the National Honor Society. She was active in Girl Scouts, orchestra, where she played the violin, band, where she played the French Horn and was involved in theater. Kathleen was an avid reader and also enjoyed writing stories. She graduated from Allen Park High School in 1970 and then went on to attend the University of Michigan receiving her secondary teaching degree in 1974.

Kathleen married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Wagner on February 11, 1977 at Cabrini Catholic Church in Allen Park. In July of 1977, they moved to Midland. On June 19, 1983 she gave birth to their first child, Bethany. On November 22, 1988, she gave birth to their second child, Paul.

Kathy was a very passionate and energetic teacher. She shared her passion for English at Northeast Junior High for 19 years retiring in 1992. Even before retiring, Kathy stayed very active in the community. She taught C.C.D. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a Cub Scout and Webelo leader. She was passionate about her volunteer work with Pregnancy Aid, helping mothers and their children.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Dr. Dennis A. Wagner and children, Bethany Wagner and Paul Wagner.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Fr. Keven Maksym officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 5-7pm with a rosary commencing at 6:45 pm, on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 4-7 pm with a Vigil Service commencing at 6:30 pm and at Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday, from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Jerome Township Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Blessed Sacrament Church or Catholic Family Service.
