Lois A. Craven ( October 23, 1934 - September 1, 2018 )

Lois A. Craven passed away on September 1st, 2018. She was born October 23rd, 1934, to parents Ralph and Ivah (McKeith) Shaffner.

Lois grew up on a farm and went to a country school and graduated from Midland High School, class of 1952, and Central Michigan College with a B.S. degree in education. Lois taught for a year on a Naval base in Hawaii and for thirty-two years in Midland Public Schools.

Lois enjoyed worldwide travel. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, knitting, driving out in the country to see the family farms, and playing hand bells at Trinity Lutheran Church. She served as one of the first female board members of Big Brothers and was a sister of Alpha Delta Kappa (professional teaching sorority).

She leaves son, Carl Craven (Deb), daughter, LeAnn Craven (Chris), a grandson, Morgan Tschirhart (Megan), and greatgrandchildren Blair, Nevaeh, Preston, and Lincoln Tschirhart, and brothers Clyde Shaffner (Pat) and Curt Shaffner (Barb). She has many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Tom Shaffner.

A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 3701 Jefferson Ave. in Midland on Thursday September 6th at 11:00am with Reverend Gerald Ferguson officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Laporte Cemetery. The family wishes to thank King’s Daughters and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, you may wish to consider Trinity Lutheran Church for pre-school scholarships.
