Roy D. Wedge, 93, died January 28, 2012 at Clare Bridge of Midland.
He was born December 5, 1918 in Beaver County, Oklahoma, son of Lucy Ann (McKim) and Joseph Wedge. Roy was blessed to have three caring and loving women in his life. He was 82 years old when he married his second wife, Fay Iris Rose, on April 10, 2001. Fay was a blessed soul who cared for and loved him well until her death on August 14, 2004. His good friend Velma Svoboda loved him dearly and helped him stay independent in his own apartment until July of 2009, when he returned to Michigan. She currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Roy was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a full life and kept his easy going personality even through his last days of illness. His faith sustained him and brought him joy throughout his life. Roy lived through the 1930s as a young man in Detroit, Michigan. He was in the CCC for 2 years before he joined the US Navy in 1939. He then served the USN in the Atlantic Ocean and then the Pacific Ocean from 1939 to 1946, reaching the grade of Chief Ship Fitter. He became an independent arpenter/contractor after returning home to Detroit, MI in 1947. In 1960 he moved his family to Grayling Michigan, where he worked as a carpenter/foreman for the State of Michigan. He had many friends in the Grayling area and was active in the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed his hobbies of trout fishing and golf.
In 1995 he moved with Grace to Las Vegas, Nevada to be close to their daughter Karen. He continued to live there until 2009, and then returned to Michigan. He resided at Clare Bridge of Midland and received compassionate loving care there for the last 2 years.
